Dr. Donald Fairbairn to be Dean of Newton House
We are profoundly indebted and grateful to Dr Michael Haykin for serving Newton House in its earliest stage. For some time he had seen the need for an on-site presence that he became unable to provide. As such, Dr Haykin has stepped back from his role, but will remain closely involved as an ongoing Senior Fellow.
Dr. Donald Fairbairn will succeed Dr Haykin as Dean of Newton House, as well as teaching historical and systematic theology on a part-time basis at Union School of Theology.
Donald is a preeminent historical theologian and a renowned authority on the early church. He currently serves as the Robert E. Cooley Professor of Early Christianity at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary where he has taught since 2010. His many publications include Life in the Trinity: An Introduction to Theology with the Help of the Church Fathers and Grace and Christology in the Early Church.
Michael Reeves, Union’s President and Professor of Theology, said, ‘It is a joy to have someone of Donald’s academic stature and expertise joining our team, but more still to discover a shared heartbeat. We share a deep love for the church, a strong desire to raise up and nurture leaders, and a passion for global mission. He is an extraordinarily good fit for Newton House and will be an outstanding asset.’
Donald Fairbairn said, ‘Ever since my years in Cambridge, I have had a profound gratitude for Tyndale House’s role in fostering evangelical biblical scholarship, and more recently I’ve been delighted to see Newton House founded as a historical/theological complement. It is a privilege to join this ministry, and I look forward to helping this young centre mature as a focal point for theological research in the service of God’s people.’
