About Us

A home for evangelical theological fellowship

Newton House, Oxford

We nurture the pastor-theologians, authors, and teachers of the next generation and foster evangelical theological strength in the church with the finest scholarship.

The theological focus of Newton House is on systematic and historical theology and church history, complementing the long-established work of our friends at Tyndale House, Cambridge. Visitors to Newton House will mix with our staff and fellows as well as PhD students from Union School of Theology.

Activities include: i) a main annual conference in Oxford; ii) an annual research conference for PhD students; iii) a semi-annual journal which will publish the proceedings of the main conference; iv) publications for the wider church; v) regular gatherings (and webinars) in which staff and fellows can mentor younger theologians.

Michael A.G. Haykin, Director of Newton House, writes:

‘A prominent lament in recent years has been that there is a growing distance between the academy and church. Newton House, named after the eighteenth-century evangelical John Newton, is an exciting new development that will seek to bridge this gap through theological conferences, a semi-annual journal, and occasional publications. It will seek to demonstrate that theology and church history can, and must, be studied for the good of the church and the glory of God.’
